The HAI-Pak has earnestly carried out the Orphan Support Program (OSP) every since its creation in 2005. It believes that orphans deserve our especial attention and care, lest they should lag behind the rest of the society, in the final analysis of the things, has to bear the consequences of it in multiple manners.

With the generous support of sponsors, the HAI-Pak takes care of their education, health and nutrition. Furthermore, distribution of gifts and cash support to such children on the eve of Eid is a regular activity at the HAI-Pak. It is at present sponsoring more than 12,000 such children across Pakistan and bears the expenses incurred on their boarding, lodging and education. On the top of that, it is also ensured that the families of these children are also provided with cash support to help them live in a stress free environment.

Each month, the HAI-Pak spends approximately Rs. 10 m to run the program. Since 2005, the HAI-Pak has spent more than Rs. 60m on this program and is committed to carry it on.

Process of the selection of a child

Each such child is identified with the active support and involvement of the local community he belongs to. Following this, the HAI-Pak staff carries out the assessment of his needs and requirements. The assessment report is then shared with interested sponsors. The HAI-Pak is compiled a sound data base of orphans in select areas of Pakistan and AJK which can be accessed by the concerned departments of their governments as well to bring these children under the social protection network.

"Bring smile back on the face of an orphaned family"

And the award goes to no one else but Laiba Akram. Her sheer brilliance and enthusiasm beat all others this year again, and in her we see someone who is destined to rule the roots in the days ahead.

For a while, Laiba struggles to find her feet, before walking to the podium elegantly. This is for the fourth consecutive time that she stands first in the annual exams and declamations, giving an unequivocal hint of her talent and the abiding spirit to excel.

Laiba, 9, was orphaned when she was just five months old. A carpenter by profession, her father was though hardly hard pressed; he had set lofty goals for her dolly, even before she was born. The things, however, took a nasty turn after his death and the whole family was thrown in a lurch, with no guaranteed support from any side.

They say time flies, but for Laiba and her family things had come to halt. Her mother struggled to earn a livelihood by doing sundry jobs. In her mid 30s, she kept herself engaged from dawn to desk to meet the educational expenses of her three other children - two daughters and one son - and deep down her heart she believed that enrolling Laiba to a school was simply beyond her means.

Her mind was seized with worries and tension, though no ray of hope available to her under prevailing circumstances. Her hopes started fading, so the excitement on the face of Laiba to start going to the nearby school.

In these dark and gloomy times, Human Appeal got a scent of the situation and decided to approach Laiba's mother, directly. After due diligence, it decided to sponsor Laiba under its Orphans Support Program and enrolled her at a local school at Dhirkot, Azad Kashmir (AJ&K). A new chapter was opened in her life.

Under the program, Human Appeal meets health and educational expenses of Laiba. On regular basis, she is provided with school uniform, bag and books, in addition to special gifts on auspicious occasions, such as Ramadan and Eid.

Human Appeal also provides a stipend to her family on regular basis to help it raise her in a stress-free and conducive environment.

Though just 9, Laiba is pretty clear about her future plans, as she intends to be a doctor to serve people in distress. She also believes that with the continued support of Human Appeal, she can do wonders not only in the field of education, but other sectors, also.

"I'm in safe hands baba, you may have a peaceful sleep, now!"

Her eyes are welled profusely. Journey to the victory stand is always a painful experience for her. With her on the contestant list, it is a one horse race from the word go. The only curiosity keeping the declamation alive is who shall be the second and third runner up, that's it!.

"Standing on the victory stand always fills me with mixed emotions. This is the moment when I miss my father more than ever. I cry to embrace him in hallucination,... he was so much to me...! These tears are also a spontaneous expression of my love and gratitude for HAI for taking me so far...without its support, this could all not have been possible at all.", confides Mubeena Sajid.

She is a student of the 8th class at a public school at Urja, Azad Kashmir. Her father was killed in the devastating earthquake in 2005, leaving behind three children and his wife to mourn his death. The family was crippled economically soon after his death. His wife had no choice but to withdraw her children from school. Things looked all gloomy and dark for them with no hope in sight.

It was then when HAI decided to step in. It decided to sponsor the education of her all three children besides providing monthly stipend to her as well. Within months, she was able to save enough money from this stipend to purchase a buffalo. Selling the milk of it has now become an extra source of livelihood for her and ease and comfort for her. This is a fresh beginning with a lots of prospects in sight for sure.

Meanwhile, her all three children Kanwal, Mubeena and Moeen are getting education at a good schools in their vicinity. Kanwal intends to become a software engineer in future while both Sajid and Moeen are eager to become army officers. They are all exceptionally good at their studies. "HAI did not provide us just financial support to continue our education. It has also shown us the path to serve the humanity to make the world a better place to live in", confides Kanwal, before throwing her arms around her mother. This is her way of reminder herself that service to humanity is the most valued thing one can think of on this planet earth.

Celebrating Iqbal day with Junaid Jamshaid

Renowned public figure and once a rock star singer, Junaid Jamshaid spends a whole day with HAI-Pak sponsored orphans and celebrates Iqbal Day with them at a local school at Taxila, Rawalpinid.

He mixed up with the children and shared his childhood memories and experiences with them and impressed upon them to show utmost respect to their teachers in particular to excel in life. He fondly recalled the role of his favorite teacher in the making and development of his personality.

While discussing various dimensions of the life and works of Iqbal, he advised the students to obtain as much information and knowledge about him as possible, for he was not just a poet but also a protagonist of the revival of Islamic civilization in the world.

Before reciting his heart touching Natt, "mera dil badal de", he also distributed awards to the winners of a competition in different categories and hugely appreciated their talent.

A brand ambassador of HAI, Mr. Jamshaid was in Pakistan to visit the earth quake affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) and made it a point to spend quality time with the HAI-Pak sponsored orphans. He reiterated to go to every length to support the HAI-Pak, running a number of projects for the welfare and development of orphans in different parts of the country.

Aamir Mumtaz of HAI-Pak digs into the life of a 10-year old orphan

Waiting anxiously for his turn to receive the relief package it was found Hamza, 10 Years old Orphan whose father is one of the martyrs of terrorist attacks in Swat, KPK.

After helping him receiving the aid HAI representative took him home to know more about his family. With the eyes brightened up with the joy Hamza started telling his story on the way. "I am living with my mother, younger brother & bhabhi. My father was killed in terrorists' attacks in Swat. We don't have home now as it is damaged in the recent earthquake" said Hamza.

"We are living with our relatives now. My elder brother used to support us after the death of our father but he drowned in nearby river catching fish one day" he explained & rushed towards his mother showing him the blanket he had in his hand.

After the death of his father and elder brother, Hamza and his family were left with the never ending miseries & cravings. Being dependent on their relatives their lives were full of hardships, having no means to education or income. But it was not the end & their adversities were not they just had at the moment. October 26th Earthquake casted out of their remaining leaving their home badly damaged.

Providing them with the one month food (ration), beddings, cooking utensils HAI has been able to relieve their suffering to some possible extent but the real worries of upcoming winter are still there. It's not just the case of one family but there are thousands of others who need shelters & winterization packages to avoid the severities of upcoming winter.

Raising three orphans single handedly: The mother says it all

It was three years ago when she lost her husband. So sudden and nerves shattering was it all that she simply collapsed. Life had come to a standstill, with apparently no silver lining on the horizon. Expecting a baby anytime, she for a while believed it was all over for her.

A resident of Nelabutt, Dirkot, AJ&K. Shaheen is in her mid 30s but talks like someone who reached the age of wisdom and maturity long long ago. "I've three children to take care of. The eldest in the family is Hamza who is just seven years. He and his Noorul Huda go to a local school. To tell you the truth, I cry each day while sending them off to school. It is not just a matter of managing their school fee. They ask for new clothes, new shoes and new school bags every now and then".

"Imagine the pain I undergo with when they ask that if their class fellows can have such things, why can't they. I can't blame them for it...but saying no to them simply kills me. I sew clothes and hardly manage to make ends meet. Life is so difficult. But sometime it is not the work load, or for that matter, issues at hand, it is my fatherless children who kill me who behave like psycho-patients, because of the treatment meted out to them in the society".

"Did I tell you anything about my cuto Aleena. She is the darling of my heart and children. You know, she was born two months after the death her father. One of unfortunate babies who can only visit the grave of their fathers, but can't slip into their laps and comfort themselves."

"She is three years old now and I need to enroll her this year. How will I manage it all? Uniform, books, school kit and who knows what else they would ask for. I've to do it as it is not a matter of choice. May Allah help me!"

"I am humbled to receive the food package distributed by Human Appeal International. It seems sufficient to meet at least one month ration requirements of my family. May Allah shower his blessings upon all those who made it possible? I wish someone, may be your organization, starts sponsoring the education of my children also. I work day in and out, but meeting their education expenses is pretty difficult, sometimes even impossible. I take care of three orphans, not just as a mother, but also as a Muslim, seeking to be very close to the holy prophet (pbuh) on the day of judgment. Is there anyone else seeking the same?"

I shall owe it all to Human Appeal

Life is full of surprises and anything can happen anytime. All you need to have is patience and a strong belief in your Cherisher who always has better plans for yourself.

Muhammad Anis and Muhammad Sakib started off their lives in highly unfriendly circumstances. The former was just trying to find his ways when his father passed away in 2006. He can only recall that a large number of people gathered from all around to lay his father to rest. That's it! For latter -Sakib -, recalling is not an option at all, as he was born almost five months after the demise of his father. All he can do is that he can tell apart the picture of his father, kissing it fondly.

Sudden death of her husband left Saeeda Bibi completely shattered. Getting widowed at a young age of 22, with two kids to take care of, she shuddered to think of the days ahead. A thoroughly gentle person, her husband Sadiq was though just a daily wager, but having big plans for his kids when they grow up.

After the death of her husband, the immediate challenge Saeeda faced was to move to a more safe and secure place. The grandparents of her children had already passed away and no one else on the paternal side of family was in a position to take care of herself and her children. For a 22 years old widow, living at a deserted place was simply out of question.

Under such dismal circumstances, elder brother of Saeeda namely Noorul Islam decided to come forward and adopt Sakib and Anis. Alongside their mother, he shifted the grief-struck family to his house at Koray, Mansehra. It was certainly a very bold and courageous step on his part as he himself was hard pressed and barely making both ends meet.

To the delight of Saeeda, he soon enrolled Anis at a local public sector school. For a while, Saeeda felt over the moon as her child had been secured from joining the unfortunate club of "street children".

"It was a great relief, no doubt. Noor had been very kind to us. When Sakib reached three, he admitted him too at the same school. But, two things still kept me haunting all the time. First, my brother was economically hard pressed and bearing the expenses of two adopted children was only making things from bad to worse for him. My ego, to tell you the truth, was also badly hurt to see him feeding my children at the expense of his own," she recalled.

"A representative of Human Appeal one day approached us from nowhere and collected detailed information about us to share with his head quarter in the UK. He assured us full support before leaving. It all sounded so nice, though none of us believed him deep down our hearts".

"To our utter surprise, one day he informed us that his organization - Human Appeal International - had selected Sakib and Anis for sponsorship of their educational and health expenses. Added to it, I was informed to receive financial support separately as well under the family sponsorship program. It was certainly the most unlikely, yet the most longed for, surprise for us at the moment".

"Today, my children are getting education at a local school and meeting their routine expenses is no more an issue for me. I try to make savings from the stipend I get under family support program and spend that on the welfare of them. Thank you Human Appeal for being a real savior. You extended a hand of support to us when we really needed that".

"My deceased husband always talked of his plans for his kids. He wanted to provide them with best education to excel in real life. With his death, I wondered his dreams had also been shattered. Human Appeal has rekindled hope in me and I believe the dreams of my husband are bound to come true one day. Thank you Human Appeal, you have reequipped us with the arsenal to chase the dreams dreamt by one else, but the diseased father of my kids Anis and Skib. I owe it all to Human Appeal alone."
