South Waziristan IDPs Crisis 2009

On October 17th, 2009 the Pakistani Army launched a military operation in South Waziristan to clear the area from terrorists. According to various estimates, more than half a million people had to flee to the neighboring areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa in search of safety and security. Though, a large number of these internally displaced people (IDPs) preferred to live with their friends and relatives at the places they had moved to, but still thousands of others had to take refuge in makeshift camps and tent villages.

The HAI-Pak took no time to reach to these people and extended every possible support to help them face the situation boldly. The details of the operation in tabular form are as under:
